Between VIASAT and XFINITY, which one is the better internet provider? Well, that’s a tricky question. Both of these companies offer a similar type of service at a similar price point. But there are also some key differences between the two services. Here we take a look at some of those pros and cons to keep in mind when choosing between the two internet providers.

What’s the same?

Both VIASAT and XFINITY use satellite internet to provide service to your home. Both offers speeds up to 25 Mbps. Both companies promise that you’ll be able to get online and stay there with consistently reliable service. You can even bundle your internet service with TV internet phone bundles from both companies. So what’s the real difference between these two providers?

Comparing VIASAT and XFINITY - what’s different?

When you really get down to it, the biggest difference between these two companies is their parent company and coverage area. VIASAT is a Danish company that has been providing internet service since 1999. They consist of a network of satellites and ground stations. XFINITY is a subsidiary of Comcast and has been providing internet service since 2002. They also use a network of ground stations and satellites. But there are some key differences in these networks. - VIASAT uses geostationary satellites, which means they orbit the Earth from about 22,000 miles above the equator. XFINITY uses low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites, which are about 200 miles above the Earth. The difference in satellite location between the two means that VIASAT has a wider reach than XFINITY. That’s because the lower orbit of the XFINITY satellites means their distance from the Earth varies based on the seasons and weather. - XFINITY’s LEO satellites only have to cover a relatively small spot on the Earth’s surface. VIASAT’s geostationary satellites have to cover a much larger area every day. This means XFINITY has fewer ground stations and satellites than VIASAT. - XFINITY and VIASAT also have different network architectures. XFINITY uses a hybrid satellite architecture, which means they use both geostationary satellites and LEO satellites. VIASAT uses only geostationary satellites.

Which service is better for you?

All of those differences between VIASAT and XFINITY come down to one key question: where do you live? If you live in an area where XFINITY has coverage, then go with them. Their more streamlined network means more consistent service for more customers. If you live in a VIASAT area, then you have more options for service and support. But if you can choose between the two, you’ll have to decide if you want to stick with what you know and go with XFINITY internet plans or if you want to go with a company that has been in the business a little longer and is backed by the Danish government. But to really make an informed decision, you should test out both services first. You can get a free trial of XFINITY and VIASAT internet plans and see which one works better in your home. That way, you can make sure you’re getting the internet service that best suits your needs.

Bottom line

There are some key differences between VIASAT and XFINITY when it comes to coverage area, network design, and parent company. But the real difference comes down to what’s important to you. Are you looking for the most reliable service? Do you want something a bit more tried and true? Or are you looking for a service that offers more options and flexibility? Get internet service from both providers and test them out for a few weeks to see which one you like better. When it comes time to choose between VIASAT and XFINITY, you have a lot of similarities and a few key differences to keep in mind.
